WASHINGTON, DC – House Select Climate Committee Ranking Member Garret Graves (R-LA) released the following statement regarding the U.S.-China joint climate pledge:

"By recognizing nothing as something, this self-congratulatory, vacant declaration actually sets back efforts to reduce global emissions by once again providing a save-facing out for China and relieving pressure from world’s most flagrant emitter. This is exactly what happened with the similar empty 2015 joint ‘action’ statement between the Obama-Biden administration and China. Since that declaration, China’s emissions are up nearly one billion tons with the rate of emissions growth increasing, not decreasing, when compared to the years previous to the deal. This administration needs to stop coddling the communist regime on emissions and quit pursuing policies that will enrich China while fostering slave and child labor."
