Washington, D.C. – House Select Climate Committee Ranking Member Garret Graves (R-LA) released the following statement after the American Petroleum Institute's announcement on the pricing of carbon:

“Over the past two decades, the United States has reduced carbon emissions more than any other country in the world – more than the next twelve countries combined – while reducing energy costs for American households,” Graves said. “American innovation embraced by the free market got us there, not a damaging carbon tax supported by multi-national corporations that will do nothing to reduce global emissions. And I will tell you what a carbon tax will do when imposed on Americans – it will increase the cost of virtually everything we buy from food for our families to fuel for our cars, it will export jobs and manufacturing– ultimately increasing global emissions and playing into China’s hands. It will also delay the development of affordable solutions necessary to reduce emissions in developing nations.  We need serious American solutions that are based on American innovation, resources and ingenuity that reduce costs and create jobs, not a cop-out approach to appease the radical left.”
